What kind of lawn are you looking after?

Select a month, the lawn style you prefer and how quickly the grass is growing. Use those details as a starting point, then adjust for the weather and ground conditions.

Let grass growth and ground conditions guide the schedule

RHS guidance says to avoid mowing when the lawn is very wet or frozen, and to adjust the schedule to growth. During hot, dry spells, raise the cutting height or pause mowing rather than stressing the grass. Remove no more than about one-third of the grass height in a cut.

A flower-rich lawn needs a different rhythm from a closely kept lawn. Check the current RHS guidance for the grass and wildflowers in your garden, and adjust the plan to Shipley’s day-to-day weather and growth conditions.
